This plug-in came out of the frustration of not being able to change the ‘From:’ header from the standard format user@host (Real name) to anything else. At times it would be a great convenience as looking up Recipients when listed alphabetically by username is a bit awkward.
The notation Steve Dorner used in Eudora to represent user@host is ^0. This is the same as the Pop account. The Real name is represented as ^1. The default representation in Eudora is ^0 (^1) or user@host (Real name). If you want to place your real name first the format is ^1 <^0>. I don’t understand why the angle brackets but it seems to be required. Another point is if your real name contains commas then the notation, ^1, must be place within quotation marks, e.g. ¨^1¨ <^0>.
After extensive searching via ResEdit, though the STR# resources of Eudora I found what I wanted. Fortunately others, far more talented than I, had previously written other plug-ins which I used somewhat as guides.
As an afterthought I added support for X-Headers. X-Headers must be in the format X-whatever: whatever. You must include the colon. Good for adding other email addresses. Unfortunately the server at the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) has filtered out all “unnecessary” headers in our mail. Thanks.
Just like others plug-ins, Eudora RSVP prefs must be placed into the Preferences folder or into the same folder that Eudora is located.
